Church will be accepting donations on Aug. 27; donations handed out on Aug. 29

The Mount Hope Seventh-day Adventist Church is looking for donations of backpacks, school supplies, and hygiene items for Hope students on Aug. 27. 

The Mount Hope Seventh-day Adventist Church wants to give Hope students a helping hand for the new school year. 

To help Hope kids feel more prepared for the upcoming year, the church will be handing out backpacks, school supplies, and hygiene kits to students on Aug. 29 at their location on 1300 Ryder St. From 5 p.m. to 8 p.m., all students and their families are welcome to receive these items, regardless of their circumstances, and to join the church for the light supper taking place at the same time. 

To help with this, the church will hosting a back/donation drive at their building on Aug. 27 from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. Backpacks, school supplies, and hygiene items can all be dropped off at the church, and people who donate will receive a loaf of Silver Hills bread. 

"This is a great opportunity for people who want to help students in our community," said Sabine Gelb, a member of the church. "The (donation drive) is about getting the community together, providing school supplies, and letting students know that they do have support from the community." 

The Mount Hope Seventh-day Adventist Church has been part of Hope for over 30 years and is known for hosting the BC Camp Meeting, an annual camp dedicated to faith and spiritual retreat. For more information about the church visit hopeadventist.ca or join one of its services on Saturday.
